Dear Kia,
My sister has started telling everyone at skool that shes a witch and shes got all this strange stuff in her room thats freaking me out. Should I be worried?
Tammy, 16
Dear Tammy,
If your sister hates you then yes, I would be worried!
Wicca is more about mind-power than spell power. If you believe something works then generally it will no matter how it comes about. Once in grade 8 at high school I pretended I’d made “bad luck potion” (a bottle of Loreal night repair serum coated in glitter nail polish kept in a jewellery bag) and we squirted it on this jock guy before geography and then during class he got into trouble twice and fell backwards off his chair.
Try to talk her out of ‘cursing’ people if that’s what she’s trying to imply she’s into because the rule of three is powerful: what you do to someone comes back to you times three. So if your sister breaks out into acne right when her worst enemy only gets a few pimples you can be sure she’s wishing pustules upon her nemesis…
But seriously, don’t be too worried - it’s probably a phase and there’s lots of helpful reading material on this subject. If you want to keep your sister away from the “dark side” and stop her from scrawling 666 in the steam on your bathroom mirror, maybe shove this book by Fiona Horne into her ‘laire’: “Life’s a Witch - A Handbook for Teen Witches”. Not only will that book encourage her to follow a lighter, more productive path of Magick but it might also put you in her good books and out of the path of any future wandful fandangery!
xo, Kia
